Do famous/successful people from the fields of politics science the arts, etc realise their impact on society?

Do famous people (Nelson Mandela, Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking, Pele, Paul McCartney, etc. etc.) realise that their names and achievements will live on for decades and possibly centuries to come? The likes of Mozart, Henry VIII, Rembrandt, Shakespeare and Napoleon are known to all of us (or should be!) centuries after their ping and they will never be forgotten. Do the truly famous seek to leave a legacy and does it affect their behaviour and deeds? Also, since starting to compose this question it strikes me that in the present day of 'm celebrity' we don't have that many 'super-famous' people whose names will become immortal. Do you agree? Can you think of any that I can't? Serious answers please!
